At CanadaHomeMovies.com we are the number one full service scanning studio in Canada. We pride ourselves in providing, by far, the highest possible quality scans available.
Since we started as a photography studio over 15 years ago, we have a special bond when editing your photos. We remember how much time and effort went into actually measuring the light, set the exposure and then waiting for the lab to create the photograph. We now make the same effort with properly scanning your Negatives and Slides.
A trained photo editor keeps constant watch. Once they have been scanned we do what no other company in North America does - we edit them. We use both Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom to not only crop, colour correct and organzie your photos, we even remove any dust or hairs that made through our cleaning process. We also arrange your images do that they all are rotated proper and are named in the order we recieved them. Try getting that kind of service from any other company!
We only use professional grade Epson scanners. High end equipment is an important part in producing top quality images from your photos.
Since we don't use automatic scanners, your images are always lying still while being scanned. This guarantees no blurry scans.
Every photo, slide and negative is manually cleaned before being scanned. The result is a clean, speck free image. Our competitors don't do that.
Once your photos are in our computers, our editor reviews and adjusts every image for best result. We are NAPP certified in Photoshop and Lightroom.
PSD is a file format native to Adobe Photoshop. Used mainly (almost only) when you are editing a photograph and wish to maintain layers. It's biggest advantage is that you can open and save then close the photo as many times as you wish without any changes occurring. In addition, you can increase the bit depth to as much as 32 bits.
If you are having us scan an image and you plan to edit the photo yourself. Then PSD is the best format for you. However, since layers are contained within the file expect the file size of each image to be very large.
TIFF, like a PSD file is also a file format that is used mainly for large images and for files that require many versions to be save. You can also embed layers with TIFF files however there are some limitations to how many layers and vectors can be stored. Again, like PSD a TIFF is native to Adobe, however it was originally created by a company called Aldus. Used mainly in publishing.
The file sizes are large however if used with Adobe Photoshop there are several options to compress TIFF files without damage or loss of information.
JPEGs are the work horse files of photography. Over 99% of all DSLR cameras have the option to shoot photos as JPEGs. The files are relatively small (usually less than 10megs), are used throughout the internet and on all photo sharing sites like Flickr and Picasa. The one major issue with JPEGs is that if you open the file, make changes and save repeatedly, small bits of information is losts. Like many things this is not a really big deal unless you plan of editing the same image 30-40 times.
We recommend JPEGs as the best format to store your images.
Do you have many photos of your great great grand parents? The few that you have of say your great grand parents must be very special. Well as time goes by these images begin to lose quality. Fading and sometimes damaged. Our photography editors are Canada's number one digital specialist. We revive your photographs and restore them to their formal glory.
The process begins with the fact that we use ONLY profession Epson scanners. In a not destructive way the images are cleaned and scanned at incredibly high resolution. Capturing as much data from the original photo as possible. Then our digital artist using the existing photo as a guide rebuilds the missing pieces, clean off marks, adjusts the colours and prepares the output.
