MiniDV tape is an excellent way to store your uncompressed Video8 video tape footage. Please understand that most tapes hold only 1 hour of footage. The cost of the tape is extra. But there is an added advantage of having high quality video stored in a digital format that will not get scratch or be deleted/ re formated in error or crash like a portable hard drive.
The main disadvantage to storing your uncompressed Video8 video tape footage on a MiniDV tape is the time it takes to reupload the footage when you need it. A) you will need a MiniDV video camera with firewire, and b) it will take exactly the same amount of time as the footage on the tape. ie: 1 hour of footage will tape 1 hour to upload.

MicroMV is Sony's proprietary digital videotape format. It's the smallest videotape format at about the size of two quarter coins. Each MicroMV cassette holds up to 60min of footage.
DVCAM was a professional DV format that came in 2 tapes sizes. 60/90 minute tapes same as MiniDV and 184 minute large cassettes.
