Photo Scanning Service

Have you ever though about how you would like to be remembered? Your legacy. It's something you create during your life to be reviewed and enjoyed by future generations. In the past, people such Benjamin Franklin or as far back as Aristotle are remembered by the contribution through invention and the written word. However, that all changed with the invention of photography. Photographs put a true likeness and exact copy on paper that could be saved and reviewed for decades.

The first known photograph has been attributed to Joseph Nicephore Niepce in either 1825 or 1827 depending on your source. Joseph Nicephore Niepce's heliographs were the prototype for the modern day photograph. He soon went into business with another famous inventor Louis Daguerre. Daguerre continued to make improvements on the process until the French government bought the rights to it in July 1839. Details of the process were made public on 19 August 1839, and Daguerre named it the Daguerreotype.

That is when the real fun began. Up until photography became a mainstream process. Anyone wishing a realization of themselves for posterity required the talent of a painter. Mainly for the rich. The everyday person would not have a portrait painted. However with the advent of photography more and more people were able to take advantage of this new art. The problem is that photographs eventually fade. Converting your photographs to jpeg or to a tiff file, any digital format will guarantee your photos will never change.

Your Legacy

Your film archive is slowly fading away. This is a true and unfortunate situation. Even assuming you have stored your images properly (cool dry dark room), film and photographs are slowly losing their place in the world. Just as the cell phone is now basically a computer, albums of images are quickly being converted to digital files. Companies such as Flickr, Facebook and Google's Picasa are replacing the physical albums with a much more versatile format.

Transfer Photo to DVD or CD

CanadaHomeMovies.com has been converting photos to CD, photos to DVD and photos to JPEG for over 10 years. One of our photo editors will do a pre-cleaning process on every single image by hand. Our cleaning process, which is designed to loosen up particles and physically remove any dirt from the your photos is a NON abrasive procedure that in NO WAY will effect the quality or damage your photographs.

Using professional scanners that have built in Digital ICE technology we hand scan each image. What does hand scan mean? We physically scan each individual image. We never use auto feeders. Our tests have shown a small percentage of slides get trapped and damaged. That small percentage is too much for us. Our goal is to save 100% of your images at the highest possible quality.

EVERY SINGLE IMAGE is personally edited by a professional photo editor. Managed by our in house Master Photographer Jean Marcotte. Our editors, using Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Adobe Lightroom 3 will properly crop, remove artifacts and output your images to the set require resolution. All photos are numbered in the order they are received and put into separate folders for easy review.

Advantages of Digital Storage

Sharing

Well, there are several. The most obvious is sharing. Canada has one of the highest number of users within the social networking community in the world. As our Internet infrastructure continues to improve more and more people are sharing their personal photos, videos and experiences online. A digital file uploaded to Facebook can then be instantly shared with some or your entire personal network. Using a free photo sharing company such as Flickr give you the tools to not only share your images, but edit, store and print too!

Safety

Having your photos from 1945 professionally scanned and put into a digital format (such as jpeg or tiff) not only allows for quick sharing. Facebooks Market cap as of June 2010 was 25 billion. This is more than many countries' GDP. Your images are safe. However, if you prefer 100% back up you can use a company such Amazon to store your images or Picasa (Google).

Legacy

How many photographs do you have of your great grand parents? Likely not many. Even back then photography was an expensive process. The talent needed to capture a single image requires professionals. As photography became easy and more automated, so did the use become more extensive. Your images will likely out last you. However, by converting your photographs to a digital file you will ensure that future generations will always remember you - exactly how you want to be pictured!
